Southeast Regional Barista Competition Comes To Atlanta
Championship to determine region’s best espresso professional
The face you see behind the coffee counter each morning may be an up and coming barista champion, expertly concocting flawless espresso, creamy cappuccinos and intricate signature drinks. All will be revealed when baristas from across the Southeast gather in Atlanta from February 19-21 to compete for the title of Southeast Regional Barista Champion and the chance to move on to the national barista championship in April. The Southeast Regional Barista Championship will take place at the King Plow Arts Center, 887 West Marietta St. in Atlanta from Friday, February 19 to Sunday, February 21. Presented by the Specialty Coffee Association of America, this event showcases the high level of expertise and innovation that has become the hallmark of quality coffee and espresso bars. In a setting akin to TV show Top Chef’s Quickfire Challenge, baristas race the clock to make and present their espresso drinks for the judges.
Competitors receive 15 minutes to create a series of four espressos, cappuccinos and specialty drinks for expert judges from the coffee and culinary industry. They are judged for the excellence of their drinks, the detail of their presentation and their hospitality. Spectators will enjoy a fast-paced event that is exciting and fun to watch. Friday and Saturday rounds determine the finalists for Sunday’s championship. Cheer for your local competitor, learn about trends in coffee and sample espresso drinks. Sponsored by Atlanta’s hometown coffee roaster Batdorf & Bronson® and distributor Everything Coffee and Tea, this event is free and open to the public.
